Wine Tasting Tips: Why You Should Use A Wine Aerator

Author: Jon white

Even though you can find the right wines in the range of course right now there is no making up in quality in contrast to a wine from the same period. However, if you know a small bit about wine you possibly know that there are options and also a few tricks to increase the style of a cheaper wines. For one, not all wine are of equal quality and you could have to proceed to a few wines tastings to find some that work for you. Once you have found a excellent winery that offers decent high quality wines you are generally almost right now there.

Experienced lovers now grab so-called aerators when enjoying a glass of grapewine - be it for dinner or any time just possessing friends over for drinks. Exactly what does a aerator do? Wine aerators enhance the aroma of the expensive grapes juice by allowing it breath. By permitting wines breathing the oxygen mixes with the taste of the grape the jar was made from and intensifies the taste. Precisely why is this generating a difference whatsoever? Scientific research that once a canned wine enters experience of a lot more oxygen it enriches the bride's bouquet or aroma of the expensive "grape juice" by issuing certain compounds.

Through extensive testing winery experts realize that it could undertake to one hour for a wine beverages to have the best fragrance after developing from a package. You've probably witnessed all the differing types of wine eyeglasses or stemware. A number of are deeper or broader than usual glasses - for a explanation. Usually stemware for whitened wine seems completely different when compared to stemware for red wines. Champagne once more requires a completely different type of drinking wine glass.

Few people provides time to wait for an hour to get pleasure from a glass of Burgandy or merlot wine and thus brands like Vinturi developed a "wine aerator". A wineaerator is a gadget that is used to pour the bottled content material into a goblet. On this course of action the fluid is rampacked with fresh air and what often takes 1 hour to happen occurs in moments. The wine's aroma changes any time being added through a aerator for wine matching exactly what you would otherwise attain when permitting your wine beverages breath for an hour before taking pleasure in it.

Vinturis are certainly not extremely expensive and you can purchase different variants. Some aerators are created for white wine beverage while some are made for reds only. Some wine beverage aerators are developed to provide with dark wine along with white wine. Some wine beverage connoisseurs might say employing a wine aerator is not the same as allowing a wine inhale naturally right after the bottle is opened up, but I think it is really difficult to tastes a difference. So, Vinturi aerators are below to stay and also can really make a bottle tastes much better than you would certainly expect.

Davidoff Introduces the Puro d'Oroa€¦ (Pure. Gold)

Author: Maria

As someone who works in the cigar industry, it takes a lot to get me excited about a cigar. I'm used to sales reps hyping up the "latest and greatest" from whichever brand they happen to be representing. It's their job, I get it, but it's made me very skeptical. So, you can imagine how thrilled I was to discover that one company always delivers the goods. That company is Davidoff and their newest line, Puro D'Oro, did NOT disappoint.

I would be lying if I said I wasn't already partial to Davidoff. I don't think I've experienced many cigars smoother than the Davidoff Thousands series that offer such an amazing caliber flavor profile. Emerson's Cigars is one of the few brick and mortars in my area, Hampton Roads, Virginia, that offers Davidoff at all five of their locations for such an amazing price. So, when I heard Davidoff was introducing the Puro d'Oro, I knew exactly where I would be smoking my first one.

Davidoff Puro d'Oro is a very special cigar, not only because it's from Davidoff, but because it has such an amazing story. Literally meaning "pure gold," Puro d'Oro is a testament to what can happen when someone combines science, creativity, and lots of patience. In 1996, Hendrik Kelner began experimenting with tobaccos for this cigar's wrapper. His initial attempts with Criollo seeds failed, at least to Davidoff standards, even though they were meticulously and expertly cross-bred with specially selected hybrid seeds. Then came the miracle idea. Hendrik hypothesized that the red, clay-like soil of Yamasa would produce a unique, interesting, but rich flavor as a wrapper leaf. Flash forward years later and success was granted. The Puro d'Oro was born.

I tried the Davidoff Puro d'Oro at the Emerson's Cigars new location in the up-and-coming Peninsula Town Center in Hampton, Virginia. They have an extremely comfortable and chic lounge area with beverages and flat screens. (If you can't make it to one of their stores, they have amazing prices on their online store- (www.EmersonsCigars.com) I decided to begin with the Notable. Construction was impressive, not many veins, with a classic pigtail end. I've obviously never smoked a cigar with a Yamasa wrapper before so there wasn't anything to compare it to! The initial taste was buttery with a slight hint of cream. This moved into notes of spice, becoming heavier and more earthy through the end. I really love a Dominican puro. I think the flavors are bold without being overpowering yet delicate enough to be enjoyable. The burn was as even as could be and held a brilliant ash through the better part of the cigar. Price points are pretty fair. Emerson's Cigars sells them in 25 count boxes and pre-packaged four packs. The Puro d'Oro from Davidoff is definitely a lovely, innovative, yet traditionally packaged and presented cigar. Well worth its weight in gold.

Savvy Wine Storage For Successful Wine Serving

Author: Olivia Thomas

Enjoying wine depends on storing and serving. Being successful in entertaining depends on the wine storage. Optimal flavor comes from the basics of time and place.

If you don't have a wine cellar, try storing wine in a closet. A closet usually maintains an even temperature and is safe for storing wine. The wrong elements for wine are extreme temperature variation and sunlight. A cool dark place is where unopened wine should be stored. Between 45ºF and 65ºF is the temperature that most wines should be stored at before opening.

When storing the wine, be sure and store it on its side so that the cork remains moist. This keeps the cork from cracking or breaking when opened. Storing opened wine, red or white, can be done for 2 - 3 days in the refrigerator and with a vacuum wine sealer it can be stored for several days.

Showing proper wine serving etiquette is one way to impress your guests. By serving excellent wine with a little style will help set the mood for any type of entertaining. By removing white wine from the refrigerator about half an hour before serving it will be slightly chilled. By the time it is served it will have reached a good serving temperature.

Red wines are best when slightly below room temperatures, not chilled. Take the bottle of red wine that is room temperature and put it in the refrigerator for 15 minutes before serving. This will impress your guests and supply an atmosphere for any type of entertaining. Tasting of the wine is another step to learn. To be a pro, there are five different tests to tasting wine.

Checking to make sure the wine is clear, with no sediments or some particles, like cork. Small amount of cork is acceptable. Pick up the glass by the stem, holding up to a white light or background gives you a clear view of the wine. Colors for white wine are pale yellow to amber gold and for red wines colors are from purple to brick red with colors in-between. The intensity of the color will sometimes show due to a heavier body.

Aromas of the wine make the tasting experience another important step. Swirling the glass in small circles releases the aromas. Hold the glass to your nose and smell after swirling the glass for a few seconds. White wines are filled with aromas of floral, citrus and tropical fruit. Berry, dried fruit and spice are red wine aromas.

The human tongue can only taste sweet, sour, salty, butter and savory. While swirling wine in your mouth, inhale air in your mouth, as if doing it through a straw and this will create more flavors of taste. Fruit, floral or spice flavors will capture your taste just as they did your smell.

Wine has a weight or body and white wines are light bodied with medium to full bodies being the reds. This is where the taste test comes in by taking a sip of wine and tells yourself how it feels in your mouth. Is it light feel or is it a rounder feel due to the fuller body? After you swallow the wine do you have a lingering feeling that remains in your mouth? This can be a fairly short feeling or quite a long feeling. This called the finish.

A wine that will stand out to you and leave an impression on you mentally will have appearance, aromas, taste, body and finish. It will also have balance.

Wine - Temperature and Taste Issues

Author: Thomas Ajava

You read about a wine that is strongly reviewed and hustle off to your local wine shop to get a bottle. You have some friends over and pop the cork for dinner. Much to your disappointment, the wine is okay but not nearly as good as the review suggested. The issue might be the temperature of the wine.

Wine is not like water. You can drink water at room temperature, ice cold or even a bit warm and still get relief. Warm wine is rarely very tasty. This is because the temperature plays a role in bringing out certain flavors and elements of the vintage. The temperature can also inhibit certain flavors and elements that might be to strong when the wine is at room temperature. Put another way, temperature is a key factor in bringing balance to the wine.

White wine is a classic example. It should be served just a bit cooler than refrigerator temperature in the 43 to 46 degree range. Obviously, that is Fahrenheit as the equivalent in Celsius would be a boiling wine! Regardless, this temperature range provides a perfect balance of the competing elements of the white. What if you serve it below this temperature range? The flavors all become bland and hard to distinguish. Serving the wine at room temperature, in contrast, produces a wine that is very acidic. Generally, it is best to start a white at around 43 degrees. As it warms up slowly in the glass, more flavors will emerge.

What about reds? Well, they say you should serve a red wine at room temperature. This clichA© is from an older time and actually is incorrect in most modern environments. A red should be served at a temperature equivalent to the water coming out of your tap. I don't know about where you live, but that is a lot colder than the rooms in my home. To resolve the issue, just put your red in a tub of tap water for a few minutes and the temperature and flavor should balance out nicely.

Wine is very temperature sensitive. While we've covered the general guidelines for whites and reds here, always take the time to find out the optimal temperature for the specific wine you are going to drink. If you don't, you might think an otherwise fine wine has something wrong with it.

Five Wine Recipes to Enjoy

Author: Rob Lee

1. Sangria

Sangria is a recipe for red wine that requires several ingredients, as well as some time to chill, but it's worth the work. For a twist, substitute white wine for the red and add grapes and limes along with the other fruit.

You'll need:

One bottle of red wine (you can use any kind that you like, but you may prefer a "lighter" red instead of a heavy Burgundy)

One lemon, sliced into wedges

One orange, sliced into wedges

2 tablespoons of white granulated sugar

One shot (1 ounce) of brandy

2 cups of club soda (use ginger ale if you'd like a zingier taste)

How you'll make it:

Pour your wine in a pitcher and squeeze the juice from your orange and lemon wedges into it.

Throw the remaining fruit wedges in, and then add the sugar and brandy.

Place in the refrigerator overnight or until cool. You may add ice cubes if you want to chill it, but this will dilute the sangria.

Add the club soda immediately before you serve it so it doesn't become flat.

2. Red Wine Cooler

Most people make wine coolers or spritzers with white wine, but they also work very well with red wine. Double the recipe if you'd like to make two servings.

You'll need:

4 ounces of red wine

2 ounces of your favorite lemon-lime soda (such as 7Up, Sprite, or Sierra Mist)

2 ounces of ginger ale

How you'll make it:

Combine all ingredients in a highball glass (a large, tall glass) that's almost filled to the top with ice cubes.

Stir thoroughly and serve.

Add garnishes of lemons or limes if you like.

3. Red Wine Lemonade

Mixing the flavors of lemonade and red wine can give a special twist for a hot summer day. You won't find this at any lemonade stand!

You'll need:

4 ounces red wine

1 ounce simple syrup (this is a blend of one to one a€" meaning you'll use equal parts a€" of sugar and water; you can make this over the stove, and then save it for when you'll need it again)

.75 ounces fresh lemon juice

How you'll make it:

Blend the wine, simple syrup, and lemon juice in a cocktail shaker with ice.

Strain into a wine glass.

Serve with a slice of lemon. You can float the lemon in the glass for an especially lemony taste, or you can put it on the rim of the glass.

4. Sweet Lime Wine

This is a spin on the Red Wine Lemonade. Consider serving both at the same party to offer two options on a similar theme.

You'll need:

Juice from half a lime

2.5 teaspoons sugar

3 ounces red wine

How you'll make it:

Combine the lime juice and the sugar until the two are combined thoroughly. Put this mixture and your wine into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.

Shake until cold and blended.

Serve in a wine glass or short cocktail glass, and add lime to garnish. You can slice the limes into the glass or serve on the rim of the glass.

5. Mulled Wine

Unlike our other recipes for red wine, this one is perfect for winter months. It's served warm and is made over the stove. For a party, you may find it easier to keep it warm if you put it in a slow cooker and keep the temperature on low. Increase the recipe by as much as you want to serve a large group of people.

You'll need:

4 ounces red wine

1 ounce port (this a strong red wine that you'll often find in your wine store near the sherry and other specialty liquors; if you can't find it, ask a store associate for assistance)

1 ounce water

1 teaspoon sugar

1 teaspoon lemon juice

1/8 teaspoon of nutmeg

1/8 teaspoon of cinnamon

One clove

How you'll make it:

Heat all the ingredients at the same time in a small pot or saucepan. Don't let the mulled wine boil.

Strain and serve in a heat-resistant glass or mug.

Wall Mounted Wine Rack Solutions

Author: David Swanson

Wine lovers populate our world by the thousands. Some are serious collectors and importers of fine wines and some just purchase a select few as a hobby and save them for only the very best occasions. There are those that love to entertain and desire to serve only the finest wines to their guests. They have a need for a place to store these special wines that protects as well as displays. A good solution for some individuals is purchasing a wall mounted wine rack to organize all these fine wines.

Most all wall mounted wine racks are very easy to assemble and when properly mounted can be very durable. Hanging a large wine rack filled with a number of wine bottles can be quite heavy as you can imagine. A wall mounted wine rack is made to support all this weight while looking good at the same time. If placed correctly, a wall mounted wine rack can add that perfect touch of elegance to a kitchen, dining room, living room or wine cellar. These wall mounted wine racks come in various styles, woods, colors, shapes and sizes. They can be quite large while some are designed to fit into a small space. A wall mounted wine rack is safe and sturdy. The fact that it is attached to a wall means that if the building shakes due to something as major as an earthquake or as minor as a large truck rumbling down the street it will not come away from the wall. The collector's expensive and hard to find wines would be safer then they would be in a freestanding wine rack. The advantages to having a wall mounted wine rack for those individuals who have these sometimes priceless bottles of wine in their home or possibly their restaurant are quite obvious.

Wine can be stored and served at a variety of occasions. These occasions can be as elegant as a wedding or anniversary or as simple as a gathering of sporting enthusiasts watching the big game. Whether it be an intimate date with that special someone or a large group toasting the honored guests at a wedding reception that special bottle of wine being stored in the stylish wall mounted wine rack is the perfect choice. People usually have several bottles of wine on hand in order to be ready for whatever occasion may arise. A wall mounted wine rack is a great way to store these bottles while keeping your wine safe. When updating your kitchen or dining area and want to have a place for that special wine collection a sturdy and safe wall mounted wine rack should be a major consideration.

Wall mounted wine racks can be found at a local wine dealer's shop or at a remodeling center or online. An online search is the simplest of course. It is a good place to start to compare prices. Physically traveling around town and seeing the different styles of wall mounted wine racks available can be valuable. The collector can have a hands on look at the construction and design. Then, when searching online they have a better vision of what will actually be delivered and installed after placing the order. This should better insure satisfaction.

Whether the wine collector purchases online or locally, installs it himself or hires someone, the wall mounted wine rack will is the perfect solution to wine storage and display.

The Different Kinds of Wine Storage

Author: A F

A fine feast would not be finalized without having a drink of fine wine to go together with it. If you frequently hold dinner parties at home, or you feel like spicing up a normal dinner with red or white wine, you can do so if you have your own wine storage in your own household. If you open a bottle of wine and don't drink all of its contents, then you need to store it in a fresh, dry place. Just put the cork back on and you can store the wine in the refrigerator for about three days.

If you intend to keep the wine for longer than three days, rather than just re-corking the wine, a stopper should be positioned on top of the bottle. Then, it should be aired out by means of a pump for a longer storage time.

For many years, wine drinking has become increasingly fashionable. The way you store your wine is particularly important. The moment you open a bottle of wine that has been stored as it should be, it can be magnificent indeed, while on the other hand, opening a bottle of badly stored wine can be quite a disappointment. Usually, drinking a bottle of wine that was inadequately stored is much like drinking vinegar

For wine lovers out there who have a big number of wine bottles, or cases to keep, there are a number of effective ways that you can use to care for and keep your wine for total enjoyment.

If you have a considerable collection of a variety of wines, you can have them stored in an offsite storage. Commercial wine storage services charge a astonishingly small fee to let you sit back and be comfortable at home while they take care of your wine bottles stored at the ideal temperature and humidity.

On the other hand, if you want to have easy access to your wine collection right in your own household, you can do so by having your own wine storage system. Remember that the culprits to an imperfect wine storage are wrong or inadequate heat, humidity and light. Check that light does not enter your wine closet, cellar or refrigerator.

It is also important to maintain the temperature at a steady degree. For red wines, the perfect temperature is 10 to 18 degrees Celsius while white wines are best maintained at 7 to 15 degrees Celsius. If you have any doubts, check with the vintner or the person from whom you purchased the wine to know the exact temperature range to store the wine.

The direction that wine is stored is important as well. If the wine stays in contact with the cork throughout storage, the cork won't dry out. If the wine doesn't stay in contact with the cork, the cork could dry out and let air into the wine. You should also make every effort to keep the wine out of the light, as light can mess up any type of wine. Light causes the wine to age ahead of time, making it in your best interest to store wine in a dark location.

To prevent damage to the wine from sediment, you should also store wine in a place that is free of vibration. Vibrations are by no means a good thing for wine, seeing that the sediment grows to be unsettled and can devastate the wine or shake it to the point where it tastes awful.

Wine Guide - Wine Tasting Made Easy

Author: Dr Sarah-Jayne Gratton

There's no great mystery to wine tasting - it simply is what it says. Tasting the flavors in the grape and learning to appreciate the differences between the different varieties on offer.

If you've never done it before then try it at home, perhaps with a few friends. First take three of four different varieties of wine (red, white, rose - or a mixture of all three). It should be a light-hearted occasion with perhaps everyone contributing a bottle. Make a note of each bottle's name, its manufacturer and year produced and arm yourself with a glass for each bottle and a notepad for your findings.

Opening Correctly
Open the bottle with a good opener being sure not to leave any cork behind in the bottle, as this can affect the taste and opacity of the wine.

Checking the Color

Now pour a little wine into the glass (a fifth of a glass is adequate for tasting purposes). Notice the color of the wine as it enters the glass and hold it up to the light so that you take a better look at it's tone and opacity. The color is an indicator of the flavors and fullness of the wine. Make a note of its shade; if it's a red wine, is it a light cherry shade, a rich damson red, or does it have an even deeper burgundy tone? If it's a white wine, is it a gold or amber toned white, or does it have a fresher citrus tone? If it's rose, is it a warm rose-petal pink, or does it have cooler violet tones? Whatever your findings - note them down next to the name of the wine.

Does it have Legs?
Now give the wine a good swirl in the glass and, again, hold it up to the light. You may notice 'legs' trailing down the glass as the flavors of the wine all meld together. Again make a note of this.

Breaking Down the Components
Now bring the glass up to your nose and inhale deeply. Close you eyes and try to 'see' the components that make up the wine you are smelling. For example, you might get a strong aroma of strawberries, plums or cherries, or pick up elements of lemony zest, or even spicy cinnamon or chocolate notes. Again, write your findings down.

The First Sip
Now inhale the wine again but this time bring it up to your lips with the flavors you have 'pictured' clearly in your mind. Close your eyes again and take a good sip of the wine. What are your initial thoughts at it hits your mouth? It might be immediately fresh and vibrant, it might be soft and melony, it might be rich and jammy.

Letting in Air
Swirl the wine around in your mouth letting it coat every part and, as you do so, purse your lips as if you are about to whistle and then breathe in just a little air to fully release the flavors of the wine. Don't breathe in too much or you may find yourself coughing - practice makes perfect!

A Good Finish
Now hold the wine in your mouth for a few moments more before letting it slide seductively down your throat (professional wine tasters wouldn't swallow of course but this is a more personal and fun experiment). Make a note of all the flavors that you have tasted and of the ones that linger on in your mouth after you have swallowed. Wines that continue to linger are said to have a long-finish. If you find this to be the case, then again, make a note of it.

Cleansing your Palate

Don't forget to provide a good sized jug of water and additional glasses, so that all of your guests can thoroughly cleanse their palates between tastings.

Adding to the Experience
You may consider reading the wine labels, with their description of the grapes and flavors before tasting, but I would suggest leaving this until the end of the tasting and then testing your abilities to see whether you picked up on those listed. It all adds to the experience and can boost your confidence if you're new to the experience.

Building a Collection
One last thing; if possible, take either a photo-copy of each wine label or, better still, the labels themselves and attach them to your notes so that you can, over time, build up a collection of your favorite varieties.

Happy Tasting!
