    Cuisinart Whine Cellar
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I have had the six bottle cellar for about three months and it no longer works. This cellar is sleek and stylish, but as others have stated and I can confirm- its a loser. Use your money to buy better wines instead of buying this thing.

Disappointing & Lasted Only 6 Months
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I bought one of these 6 months ago. It worked fine, looks great, but then just stopped cooling. I could live with the constantly running fan, but when it stopped cooling, I returned it to the retailer who had since discontinued carrying the item. Price paid was reasonable ($70), but not up to my expectations for a Cuisinart branded product. I would suggest looking at other products before being drawn in by the price.

    So far so good.

I got this for my parents at their specific request despite one bad review on Amazon. They say it is working perfectly (keeps temperature well) and is a perfect size for their needs. The shipping was free, but the package looked a bit roughed up when it arrived. While there was a pretty large hole in the box it arrived in, it was undamaged.

    Horrible Wine Cooler
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
This is my 2nd attempt at writing a review of this product. We were genuinely excited when we purchased this particular unit. That excitement quickly faded as we learned that it has serious design flaws.

    1st: The troubleshooting section states:

The inside temperature does not seem correct – The room may be too hot. Example: if the ambient temperature is 80*F or higher, the unit can have difficulty chilling adequately on the white wine setting.

The white wine setting should be about 45*F according to the users manual. Having said that, I took the temperature where the unit is. It is 78*F (I live in Southern AZ where it is hot for 8 months out of 12). I first tried to set the wine cooler temp to 52*F. No dice, the display continued to flash indicating that it was not reaching that temp.

I tried setting it to 58*F. No dice. The display continued to flash. I tried setting it to 65*F. Still no dice.

The other major problem is that as others have reported, the unit will build up quite a bit of condensation on the inside bottom of the unit. It built up so much that it spilled out onto the counter where we have the unit.

I emailed Cuisinart about the problems. I even took a picture of the unit with a digital thermometer on top of the unit clearly showing the room temp to be 78*F. The unit display was blank indicating that it was flashing meaning that it could not reach the set temperature. I had the unit set to 65*F.

I went back and forth with their customer service. They kept giving me canned nonsense answers, and did not read my original email at all. After many back and forth, they finally agreed to replace the unit.

However, after reading some of the other reviews, I am NOT confident that the replacement unit will be any better. If it has problems, I am going to demand a full refund. I doubt that I will get one, but I will demand it anyway.

It is a shame that the unit is so problematic. We have a Cuisinart knife set, and could not be happier with it. The same goes for my Cuisinart coffee maker.

Doesn’t last more than a year!!
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I received this for a wedding gift and it lasted 8 months before it just quit working. It was nice while it lasted. Good thing I was able to take it back for a store credit. When i took it back to the store 2 people i had talked to there had similar stories with their Cuisinart wine cellar.

Cuisinart should stick to food processors and blenders.

    Pefect for Red wine
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I only drink red wine, therefore, I don’t need this to get any cooler than 60. I can see where it would be a let down for those trying to get their whites cooler, but not a problem for me. And enough about how “noisy” this thing is…please. I’m not sure if I have a newer model, but I can barely hear it. If you’re like me and are just looking for something to keep your reds at prime temp, buy it.

Second one in less than two years…dead…
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
The first one died in six months, second one lasted a little longer. Looks nice; and it’s compact. It’s definately noisy, and the quality is obviously not good.

Between this, and our Cuisinart coffee maker that deposited a pot of coffee on the counter top and floor a couple times a month, I don’t think I’ll be buying any more of their cr@p.

Do more research than I did
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Like many others here, I don’t recommend this item. It does run constantly and never gets below 55.6 degrees in a 74 degree room. I guess that is in line with the owners manual “INSIDE” the box. They sure don’t advertise that fact anywhere externally. I bought this for my wife because she loves white wine but it simply doesn’t fit the bill.

It’s not as loud as others here suggest, but it isn’t hush quiet either.

All in all I’m very disappointed in this product and certainly do NOT recommend it to anyone.

Follow-up: I bought this item April 9, 2008. It’s now September 3, 2008 and it hasn’t cooled for a week. The fans continuously run but the bottles are room temperature. DO NOT BUY!!!

    Can’t complain
    Rating:5 out of 5 stars
I bought this unit at Sam’s about a year ago. I am surprised by the reviews. I have had this for about a year with no problems. I haven’t noticed it being noisy, but this is the first wine cooler I’ve bought so I have nothing to compare to. If there is a power outage – it does default back the the 45 degree setting (white wine), but since it has a digital read-out on the front, it hasn’t been a problem for me press the button to reset it back to the red wine preset.

It keeps my wine cool and we can easily grab a bottle and open it at night for dinner. I’m happy with it.

Cuisinart – must be French for “junk”
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Felt I should add my complaints to those already posted. The unit cycles constantly, a considerable annoyance in all but the noisiest rooms. It claims to use only as much electricity as a 100W light bulb, but the cycle time on this unit could mean $100 per year at $0.10 per KWh. But my major complaint is the default to the lowest setting after a power failure. We have many power interruptions in our area and this thing resets itself to about 45 degrees, which it can’t maintain, so it runs continuously until someone notices.

    Typical Cuisinart Garbage
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I don’t understand why Cuisinart is still in business. Sure, everything they make has a nice brushed steel casing, but that’s all they have going — I have yet to own anything made by Cuisinart which works. I got this cellar as a gift (one given with the best intentions, and one I was happy to have), and it worked for about three months. Now, though, the fan just spins and the unit eats power and doesn’t get any colder. I put a thermometer in the unit and watched it for about 48 hours and, no matter what the setting, the internal temperature is usually the same as the room temperature, if not higher (as I write this, the internal temperature of the unit is a wine-cooking 71 degrees, the room it’s sitting in is 65 degrees). I thought maybe it was some dust clogging the machine, but after cleaning the fans and heat sink with some canned air and letting it run for another 48 hours the problem remains. I just hope my bordeaux isn’t ruined.

I wish I would have read the reviews before I bought this awful unit
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I wish I would have read the horrible reviews and saved myself the money. I bought this unit thinking it would be perfect for my counter top in the kitchen but after having to hear the constant “humming” and complaints from friends that kept asking me if I was running my microwave, I stuck it in the garage.

It’s loud and after taking it out of the box the thin film of silver on the handles started coming off and was so sharp I didn’t realize that I cut myself on it.

It’s a horrible little machine and is not worth the $150 much less even $15. Do not buy or if you do, make sure you keep the receipt. I would give it a zero rating but it’s not allowed.

    Nice unit for the money
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I purchased this unit and, contrary to the other reviewers, am relatively happy with it. The fan noise is louder than expected and you certainly wouldn’t want this in a quiet area of the house, but its not objectionable in an already noisy area like the kitchen.

Also, I’d like to clear the air about some of the claims against this unit. Many people are complaining about the power usage, mostly because they hear the fan going off and on a lot. The problem is that people are equating this to a refrigerator which would use a ton of electricity if it cycled on and off this much. But a fridge uses a compressor, and this unit uses a thermoelectric cooling system. Its a VERY different system.

I have a power meter that measures the power usage of an appliance over time. This unit uses 15 watts when the fan is off and about 75 watts when its on. I have it set to 57 degrees F, and my house is at 74 degrees. The amount of cycling I get translates to a cost of about $35 a year to run the thing (at 10 cents a kilowatt hour). Seems pretty reasonable to me.

In a fridge, the ENTIRE system (compressor and fans) cycles on and off based on the interior temperature. Since the interior temperature is fairly stable, it doesn’t have to turn on and on much.

I’m not an expert on thermoelectric cooling, but my limited knowledge leads me to believe that its a continuous and proportional cooling system. What that means is that its always electronically moving heat from the inside of the unit to a heat sink on the outside. The amount of heat moved depends on the interior temperature, the exterior temperature, and a voltage setting (you set the voltage when you select the temperature on the control panel).

So the fan on the outside is turned off and on just to cool the heat sink on the back. Since the heat sink heats up and cools down quickly, the fan turns off and on frequently to keep it cool. The fan will be on more if your house is warmer. The “cooling” is always happening whether the fan is on or not. That’s why it uses 15 watts when the fan is off.

But, and this is the important part, the fan cycling on and off does NOT indicate a compressor or other cooling element turning off and on, so its not using a ton of electricity. Its just the fan.

Now don’t get me wrong, the fan cycling on and off can be annoying depending on the location in the house. But don’t mistake that for gobbling up electricity.

Other than the fan noise, its a nice little unit. I measured the temperature inside and compared it to the control panel setting and its spot-on. For most people, if you want to use the lowest setting, 45 degrees, you’re better off just using your normal fridge since it should be set at around 40 degrees. But if you’re really looking for cellar temperatures of 55 to 65 degrees, this does a great job.

Not what I hoped for…very dissappointing!
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I bought this product hoping to be able to help preserve some of my better wines during the warm summer months. According to the insert with the product, if the room temperature is 77 then you can’t do better than 54 in the wine cellar. My house temps usually run around 78 through the summer, so this unit won’t even make the 54 setting. I have it set at 64 and it continuously cycles on an off with a fan that’s very obnoxious and not at all quiet as advertised. On the insert and in bold letters they state “This is a wine cellar, not a refrigerator.” I’m not so sure I would even call it a ‘wine cellar’…more of an energy gulper (approx. 100 watts according to the user guide.)

    Not a Good Product
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
We got this product as a gift and were very excited. The first unit we tried stopped working within the first 3 hours of turning the product on. We noticed a glue like substace dripping from the back of the Cuisinart Wine Cellar and an electrical fire type smell. After trading the unit in for a new one we thought things could only get better. We were wrong our next unit continues to work but the fan cycles on and off every 30 seconds. This fan is not quiet as advertised. We have tried different plugs and locations, but the fan persists. I can hear the electric bill going up as I write this review.
