first it freezes wine, now it heats it
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I agree with previous reviewers. We had this wine “cooler” in the house when we purchased it. At first it seemed to work pretty good and we were excited to finally have a wine cooler. But after circa 2 years we are having big time problems. First several bottles in the lower compartment started to freeze and it destroyed several nice white wines. I reset the thermostat just to discover yesterday that both compartments are now at 79(!) degrees. The condenser is warm and fans are only running in the lower compartment. It is erratic in operation…. I don’t think I will even try to get this repaired after reading the other reviews.

The risk of destroying 10-20 bottles of wine is just not worth it…

It lasted five years; would have hoped for more.
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
It stopped working and gave an ‘E4′ code after 4 years and 10 months of service. Before that, about two or three years in service, it also started to have bouts of loudness. From what I’ve just read on the net, the unit probably can’t be fixed for much less than the cost of a new one.

These days, five years sort of seems like a reasonable time for something to work. But given that the Danby cost as much as my ordinary full-sized refrigerator – which still works perfectly after more than eight years – I don’t think it’s reasonable.

    FROZEN WINE
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I wish I would have read this section BEFORE I bought my unit — it FROZE 33 bottles of wine TWICE. I realize I should not have trusted it after the first time it FROZE. Do not make the same mistake!!!!

    Bad product
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I bought 2 of these for my home. Almost immediately after the warranty expired, I got an E4 error on the display and the colling shut off. I called Danby and they said I had to go through a local repairman. He came out and said the control board was shot. $250+labor to replace. I called Danby and said I thought this was not right. I was basically told to F*** Off because the warranty was expired.

I’m screwed, because the kitchen was designed for this width of cooler. Thanks Danby for making a really crappy product that won’t last and you won’t stand behind.

    Looks great-but doesn’t work!
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Just purchased this from a local store. Looked great, very stylish. Plugged it in at home and set the two temperature zones. The problem being-the temperature in the fridge just kept going up! Checked the button and it did save the two temperatures I chose but after one day both areas were up to over 70 degrees! Have had it one day and will be returning it tonight.

Did not cool at all-obviously something fundamental in it is broken. Having read other negative reviews I will not buy another one.

    Happy with our unit
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
We’ve had very good luck with our unit. We purchased it about 4 years ago and have NEVER had any problems. We don’t find it noisy at all. Yes the bottom shelves are a little short so you aren’t able to fill them. Realistically it will hold about 24-26 bottles. We love the dual-zones and the price was was affordable. I had to write this review because of all the negative ones I read. We just purchaced another for our vacation home but have not installed it yet. We’ll see what happens with that one.

stopped cooling and bad customer service
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I bought this cooler 18 months ago and it has stopped cooling. I tried to call Danby, but even though they had my serial number, they could not guarantee that they would cover the cost to fix it. I had to find my own repair shop as the repair shops Danby referred to me did not cover my refrigerator. I was told it would cost almost $300 to fix, not worth it.

    Back to the drawing board.
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
The lower two shelves are shorter than the others, this is due to the design and placement of the motor and refrigeration unit. This means that the unit will never be able to hold 30 bottles. The standard size bottle of wine holds 750ml, which means they are all displace the same space, although in different dimensions. Any bottle short enough to fit in the lower shelves will be too wide to fit 5 across, any thin enough to fit 5 across will be too long. It only has 6 shelves, which means to fit 30 you must get 5 bottles on each shelf, and that won’t happen.

In addition I was really disappointed that the dual zones have a programmable range of only 4 degrees (6-10c in the lower section and 10-14c in the upper section) and the zones are not interchangeable. As I own more reds than whites, I had planned to use the larger section for my reds. However, this is more an inconvenient lack of a feature, and not nearly as important as the blatant design flaw/false advertising of it’s capacity, and therefore it’s function.

I only hope it doesn’t fail after a week like so many others, and am glad I got the 3 year extended warranty from RC Willey. The only reason I am not returning it is because it would cost me $55 to have them pick it up, and I would have to take another half day off work to do that. It will do well enough until I get my annual bonus and get a better and larger unit and this one will go on Craigslist.

Trust me, buy something else, unless you want a 24-26 bottle unit and pray you get at least 8 short fat bottles to put on the bottom shelves.

wow! i’m surprised at all the negative feedback! it works great for me!
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
i’m shocked at the reviews. i’ve never had a single problem with mine. no condensation, no heating issue, the dual temperature sections work great. it’s not noisy at all; i barely notice it. i’m quite frankly confused and wonder if Danby put out a crummy lot at one time but fixed the issue? anyway, i’m not one to post reviews, but figured i would at least give the other side from a completely satisfied customer.

    WHAT AN ABSOLUTE RIPOFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I bought this product around Christmas 2007 – the unit just broke – not even 6 months old!! I have very decent wines and champagnes ruined as this unit stopped working. If you read the Danby warranty, ruined wines are not covered. Paying over $ 300.00 for unit that worked no more than 6 months is an absolute disgrace. Danby probably spent no more than

$ 30.00 to make this junk in China – once again another piece of junk from China. Wine needs long term storage – otherwise, why buy a wine refrigerator? – I guess Danby feels putting out a junk product lasting 6 months is quality. If you want to ruin some good wines and champagnes, please buy this product. I contacted Danby representatives and was treated very rudely – they could care less. Save your money!! Forced to give one star by AMazon but this is truly a 0 star.

    Horrible customer service
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Just save your time and money. Danby’s customer service is as bad as it gets. I have a wine fridge made by them. In the two years we’ve owned it, it’s been in “working condition” a total of two months. It’s been in for ten, yes TEN service calls, and most have them have required weeks and months waiting for parts. Absolutely horrible. Never ever, ever buy another Danby product!

Nice when it works but not very robust.
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Have had 2 of these in the past. One lasted 5 months before the fan in the back started making a screeching noise. Took it back to Sam’s club and received a new one. That one lasted 14 months before the compressor stopped working and it would no longer cool down. Took it back as well. It was attractive and functioned well when it worked but it is not a robust machine. I would avoid.

    Horrible customer service
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Do not by Danby anything! I made several calls after my 50 bottle cooler went out. Danby kept refering me to a local service rep who would not come out because they simply don’t like dealing with Danby. Every time I called Danby they tried to transfer my call until I got the voice mail. Even though I talked to the same person every time, they acted like they were talking to me for the first time. Many hours of frustration and time that I will never get back. Stay away!!!

    Worked for 1 year
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
This wine cooler looks good, is priced right, bit at the end of the day, you get what you pay for! Mine worked okay for about 1 year, and then quit cooling. After a service call that I arranged, the serviceman said that because this unit DOES NOT have a fan, it needs to be in an open area w/ clearance on all sides. Well our unit is built-in under a counter, next to a cabinet and wall. No one from Best Buy mentioned this minor detail! Because the unit gets so hot, a seal broke and all the freon leaked out. My serviceman said Danby will replace it, but expect the same thing to happen again unless I relocate it…yea right. I guess I look for a wine cooler w/ a fan and sell the replacement I will receive on EBAY!

Doesn’t work anymore, and no one cares
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I purchased this wine cooler a little over a year ago, and now it doesn’t keep cool anymore.

I purchased it at Best Buy…my first mistake.

I’m still trying to get in touch with Danby customer service…what a joke…does anyone answer the phone??
