    Weak product
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
In short, this is a weak product.

The shelves don’t stay in place because they are too light to hold the bottles. The electronic display broke after six months, so we could not regulate the temperature. Finally, the cooler stop working after one year and a half, and now all that is left is an annoying noise that sounds like a time bomb… which is exactly what this product is.

Vinotemp wins the award for the WORST products ever made
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
OK, here’s a brief about Vinotemp and this particular model. DON’T BUY IT. Whatever you do don’t buy it. First off, Vinotemp is a company run by unhelpful, rude and pretty much stupid employees. The reason for this animosity is simply because it’s the truth. They don’t care about your business or what you buy from them, they are oblivious to your needs and could care less to even sell you a product. Second, once they do convince you to buy one of their products, it will break in 3 months, 6 and if you’re lucky within a year. They don’t care to manufacture good products, their “warehouse” in Los Angeles is just that – a warehouse that receives poorly built products with 15 year old compressor technologies from China. They probably cost about $300 to create and are just some of the worst products money can buy. I’ve had two of these and they both failed and were calculated to be more expensive to repair than a brand new one of the same breed. Unbelievable. They didn’t even last 1-year. Vinotemp, of course, doesn’t care to fix them and will even have you drive the unit down to the hood (yes, they really have a warehouse in the straight L.A. ghetto aka Compton and Lynwood area) and what happens there is that you get a quote to pay for something because it’s not covered under their unbelievably limited warranty. Ultimate screw by Vinotemp. Please consumers, don’t buy these products they are pure garbage. ((Furthermore, a friend had the same model in question which froze his $5000 wine collection because it knew it was operating too cold but it couldn’t stop – good logic in that one Vinotemp).

    Thermostat failed
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Thermostat stopped working after 2 months. Refrigerator still cools, but cannot set the temp. and the temp. changes on its own. Also, makes a weird noise now. I finally just unplugged it.

I will now need to buy another brand to replace this one. Don’t waste your money on this one.

    Awful product
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
    1. The Vinotemp wine cooler arrived damaged.

    2. It looks cheap (although I liked the blue lights). Having to open the door all the way is annoying .

    3. The wood racks are difficult to slide out.

    4. The temperature doesn’t stay down when summer comes (now I know why after reading the comment from another reviewer: no compressor)

    5. The unit broke down 15 months after I bought it. Repair cost: $400. Forget about it, I’m junking it!

    The downfall of this product
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
While this product arrived within 2 – 3 days, I quickly learned that this is a very cheap item. The shelves do not slide easily and bottles to do fit as well as they should. The temperature display board began malfunctioning after 6 months. Vinotemp could not have been more unhelpful. While I did buy an extended warranty, I’ve been struggling for 3 months to get this item fixed, all the while my wine is not properly stored.

Review of dual temp wine fridge
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
The unit has a nice feature of being able to store white and red wines at your selected temp. The size is very good and was perfect for the area we wanted to place it. It holds the selected temp just fine but if the power is interupted you will need to reset your settings. It does have a few shortcomings… It is much louder than a standard fridge given it’s size. The shelves that you must use to remove a bottle don’t fit very well at all and they will drop out of their slots while in use. These wood shelves are all very cheaply made. The LED lights inside are all but useless. The door must be opened fully (180 degrees) in order to slide out a shelf to remove the bottle. We have a GE unit in another location that is a much better unit but only has single selected temp. It did cost nearly twice what this unit did.

If/when it dies I will not replace it with this brand or model. It proved to point that you get what you pay for.

    Junk
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
This unit is a piece of junk. First, when I opened the door it made a clicking noise. Second, the shelves are extremely flimsy. The wooden shelves slide into the side of the fridge. The top shelve was about a half inch short in width and kind of sagged after putting three bottles in. Third, the center control panel was crooked. I measued the control panel and it was off by an 1/8″. You could see by looking at the unit that it was off by a little bit. I was so disappointed with this unit I returned it. I purchased the unit from Best Buy as they have it for $249.00. I would not recommend buying this unit. Just another piece of junk built in CHINA!

    BUYER BEWARE!
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
We have no beef with Amazon.com – in fact they were very accomodating and quick to replace our first Vinotemp wine refrigerator, with a SECOND Vinotemp wine refrigerator (and they Fed Ex’d it at Amazon’s cost).

In both instances, the Vinotemp refrig arrived with a big dent in the back of the refrig. We couldn’t detect any indentations in the surrounding styrofoam so we concluded it was leaving the VINOTEMP factory like that (nice quality control, Vinotemp!). Also, since we only saw a photo of this product online, we weren’t aware of how cheap it looks up close and personal. The fact that both times we received a damaged VINOTEMP was actually a blessing in disguise.

We ended up buying a Haier wine refrigerator for a few dollars less and it holds 15 more bottles – and is superior quality. Whew.

P.S. Also at one point during our decision making process, I called Vinotemp directly to ask some product point questions. I spoke to two different representatives and it was obvious that NEITHER one knew what she was talking about. I had an unsettled feeling about that, but we went forward anyways.

Again, damaged VINOTEMP out of the factory (2x) = blessing in disguise!

    Disappointing on many levels!
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
As mentioned in other reviews here the shelving is a big issue. Not only do the shelves only slide out when the door is fully open beyond 90 degrees (which is really not a big deal), but they are difficult to slide out when 2 bottles or more are on the shelf. Sometimes the wood shelf caves under the weight of the wine and bows out such that shelf is off track. In order to remove or place bottles of wine in here – I’ll often have to remove all the wine bottles in the shelf above it!!

The next big issue is the temperature – definitely not as cool as I expected it to get for the white wine section. Another reviewer provided the explanation though, lack of a compressor means the unit will only cool to 25 – 30 degrees below ambient temp.

Last issue we encountered after 9 months of ownership: the LED display is malfunctioning to the point where we can now longer tell what temperature the unit has been set at. VERY disappointing! I would not recommend this product to anyone.

    Don’t Buy This
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
The only way I could be more disappointed in this product is if it didn’t even cool the wine; well, it didn’t even do that well. Bottles come in different lengths, this only allows the standard size (no, I am not referring to the larger lower cost bottles). The shelves are horrible, causing the bottle (note that I stated BOTTLE, not BOTTLES) to fall (thankfully, I guess, only one bottle fits on a shelf – 21 bottles? What a joke). Put a wood shelf in that is only 3/16″ wider then the narrowest point and it will FAIL. There goes my favorite Merlot :-( .

If you buy this, you will be so sorry. I loved the looks of it, the sales pitch that it held 21 bottles, that it could allow two different temperatures and then I find it was only a sale pitch. It is JUNK.

Thankfully, AMAZON will not only refund my money, they will pay the return shipping. No wonder I purchase from them daily.

    A tad short
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Since this unit does not have a compressor, one thing to keep in mind is that this unit will only cool to about 25-30 degrees below the ambient tempurature. We keep our air at about 80, so the the unit will only cool to about 50-55 degrees.

We replaced an old trash compactor. This unit requires a small stand about 4″ tall to properly fit under the counter top. I built mine with an exhaust fan to force the air out through my stove exhaust. Allowing me to finish out the fit without large gaps.

Keep the lights off inside. They look cool but they are bad for keeping the wine. As a matter of fact, I tinted the glass door to keep the ambient kitchen light out as much as possible. I wish the manufacturer would have used a dark glass.

    No No No
    Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I agree with others, bad shelving, & door opening issues. In addition my temperature display lights are half burned out, of course 30 days after the warranty expired. Very poor customer service. They know they have a dud. There hoping it goes away.

  13. Mehri Kaufmanon 15 Dec 2010 at 12:00 am

Cool look- and operation; great customer service.
    Rating:4 out of 5 stars
The only problem I have has been mentioned, and that is that the door must be open more than 90 degrees to slide the rack out. I think a slight redesign could fix that. If they moved the rubber seal from the door to the cooler, it would solve it, but there could be issues with that I’m not seeing.

I like the digital readouts, and love the blue-white LED interior lights. The fact that larger (cheaper?) bottles only fit on the bottom rack is standard for wine coolers. If you made all the racks to accommodate large bottles, it would be a 15 bottle fridge.

After several months of ownership, one bar in the temp LED stopped working. Unfortunately, it was the middle bar of the ’6′ so it showed all the time for my reds. I called Vinotemp and they were going to send someone to fix it!!! –to my house! I asked them to send the part, they did, and I easily replaced it.

I think it was a great product for the price, with great service.

    Absolute GARBAGE (NEGATIVE Stars!)
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Do NOT waste your money — DO NOT buy this junk!

This wine refrigerator is piece of garbage. I should know as I have had TWO and both broke within weeks. The second one is no longer covered under the warranty (I purchased it at the ‘manufacturer,’ though the fridge says ‘made in China’ on the back, and Vinotemp only offered a 3 month warranty). Also, as a previous reviewer stated, the wooden shelves are flimsy and ridiculous! The company, Vinotemp, is HORRIBLE to work with! They are mean and nasty and completely unhelpful. Do yourself a huge favor and buy a quality product from a quality brand. You really DO get what you paid for! NEGATIVE STARS FOR VINOTEMP!

    Thermostat problems
    Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Stainless and glass door design is very nice as are wood shelves although they are flimsy as noted by other reviews. Unfortunately we’ve already had thermostat repaired under warranty once (within 30 days of purchase) and it has gone bad again. As such the item is not recommended. Wishing we’d have purchased the Kenmore wine cellar as recommended by Consumer Reports.
